DANIEL 9:19 (LORD!)

Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name." Daniel 9:19
When we were praying about what we should focus on this month, nothing was coming to our minds.  It was May already, and still nothing.  We prayed that God would show us the verse He wanted to be our focus this month.  A verse that would help to define our month.
It was May 4, National Day of Prayer.  I was driving home from work, and I was praying for the verse. I was listening to the radio, and the DJ said, “This is the verse for today, Daniel 9:19.”  As she was reading the verse, it confirmed that this is what I needed to focus on this month.  It was an answer to prayer.
I looked up the verse in the Bible Commentary to get to know more about what the author was thinking when he wrote the verse. The commentary mentioned that there was a fervor in the author’s prayer as he was praying. “Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act!” If I look at the verse again with the emotion of fervor in mind, this verse takes on a new meaning.
The definition of fervor is “intense and passionate feeling.”  Some synonyms that are included are: zeal; excitement; animation; eagerness; vigor; fire; spirit; zest.  Wow, that is awe-inspiring!  That is what I want in my prayer life.
My prayer this month is that my praying, and yours, is done with fervor.  “Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act!”  I pray that my prayer is done with intense and passionate feelings.  I want to have a vigor and a zest for prayer, and when I pray I want to have a fire inside of me.
What does this verse mean for me and to me? Well, for starters, what a difference it would make in my life if I had as much fire for prayer, that I do with other things I feel passionate about.  It has the potential to continue to change me and my life.
I don’t want to pray because I feel like I “have to.”  I want my prayer to be because I need to.  Prayer needs to be like air and water for me.  I can’t live without it.  Without air and water, we die.  That is what happens if we are without God.
It doesn’t matter if the prayer is something small or very large, God wants to hear it all.  I will breath and pray with new fervor. I know that God sent this verse to play on the radio at the time that I needed.
I want a zest in my prayer life. I want a zest in my life for God.  How full will my life be, if I start with a zest for my prayer life?  I can only imagine that God will spill over into every area of my life, every part of me.  If I give Him all of me, then He will do what He needs to do in all.
There are three of us in a Bible study, and this week we have been texting each other early in the morning “Good morning, it is Jesus time.”  It is exciting to know that there are two other people who are praying and having Jesus time at the same time I am.  It is contagious, in a good way.
My prayer for each of you reading this is that you pray with fervor.  Don’t make prayer something that you have to do, but pray with a zest that will fill each of you.  I pray that the Holy Spirit will fill each of you and that you may know and see the wonder and power of God.
Dear Lord,
I pray to you.  Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act!  You are our Lord.  Give each of us a new zest for You.   I pray that each person reading this will start or continue this amazing journey that You have each of us on.  You are our light, and You want this personal relationship with us, an intense and passionate relationship with You.  I pray that each person will have a fervor for You.

In Jesus’ Name - Amen

March Prayer Topic: After putting God first, then what?

Life More Abundant

John 10:10 …I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

My day, get up, have devotions, exercise, breakfast, get ready for work, at the office for nine or more hours, fight traffic, maybe get groceries, fix supper, on Wednesday nights, I have bible study with three other people at my place, after they are gone, I get lunch ready for next day, and clean up, and finally before falling asleep, I like to take hot shower, then I get to do it all again the next day.

I look at the list above, and I am exhausted just looking at it.  How many of us look at that list, and can actually add things to it?  We have filled our lives so full.  Is that a good thing?  Do we have life more abundantly?

Here is another question, are you so glad that the weekend is here, instead of enjoying every day as God intending?  We have filled our lives with so much stuff.  Is it worthy stuff?  Absolutely, and don’t get me wrong, these things are important.  However, have we filled our lives so full that we have lost prospective of why we were made?

For me, I realize that I have filled my days so full.  Maybe, I can have a new outlook on my day to day.  Instead of a checklist of what I need to do, I can see if I can do them praising the Lord.  Will that change anything?

So, let’s see if I can change my outlook.

·      When I get up, I have worship.  That it is an easy one.  I start my day praising the Lord.
·      Next, exercise, there are days that I don’t feel like it.  However, I try and go for a least a walk for about a half an hour or so.  While walking, I can put my I-pod on and listen to Christian music.  Or, if I go to the gym, then I can do the same things, and listen to Christian music instead of the loud music playing in the gym.
·      Eat breakfast & get ready for the day.  Praise the Lord that I have food in my refrigerator, and a job to go to.

·      Work – take the opportunity to be a witness to those that I work with and come in contact with at the office.   So, instead of growling over the list of things to do, I will praise and be joyful for the job that I have.
·      Driving home in traffic – Sometimes I wonder where people learned to drive, or if they even took Driver’s Ed.  How do I tackle that one?  Yes, I can change my outlook on that one too.  I can turn my radio to positive Christian music, and sing along.  I have been known to sing other songs at the top of my lungs.  Why not Christian songs?

So, you see there are several things that I can do to change my outlook.  Maybe you can think of your own ways.   Another idea is what we want to pray and see if the Lord will reveal in you what ways we can change our outlook.

Dear Lord, please show me a life more abundant.  I don’t want my life to be a checklist that I look at, at the end of the day to make sure I got everything done that needed to be done.  I want my life to be a praise to you, and no matter what I do, let me do it to your praise. Amen

THANKSGIVING 365 DAYS A YEAR

Thanksgiving is not just the 4th Thursday of November.  Yes, that is when we celebrate it here in America.  However, I believe that Thanksgiving should be every day of the year.  Every day there is something to be thankful for.  From the fact that I woke up in a warm bed to having friends that love us no matter what. Every day is a new day to be thankful for something.

God puts people in our lives.  That is Thanksgiving.  We were made not to be hermits, but to thrive.  God loves us no matter where we are, and He doesn’t leave us there.  That is a Thanksgiving.  Finally, giving it all to God, that is Thanksgiving too.  It doesn’t have to be a big thanks. It can be a small giving of thanks.  God is in all things.
What I am thankful for:
  • God for giving me His son to die for me.
  • Family and Friends
  • Birthdays
  • Having a little bit of whimsy added to a day

Pray that God will continue to show you things to be Thankful for.  All we have to do is open our eyes to see it.

Fruit of the Spirit

Fruit of the Spirit

Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (God-control).

How many of you feel lacking sometimes in the area of the fruit of the spirit?  I know that there is often time that I don’t have patience, I want it right now.  I pray for the Lord to help me be patient.  However, is that enough?  Sometimes, are we afraid of letting God have complete control of our lives?

It isn’t enough to pray that we be filled.  We can pray all we want, but we have to do one more step.  We have to be willing and open for God to give us the fruit of the spirit.   That is the more difficult part.  It means giving up control.

I don’t know about you, but I often find it hard to give up control. I don’t like the word SELF control.  Did you know that a synonym for self-control is restraint?  I need restraint from trying to control everything.  So, if I give control over to God, and honestly let him have the control, then I am God-control.  I like that a lot better.

Let’s pray that we allow God to have the control so He can bestow on us the fruit of the spirit.
